The Unknown Riders
By: Anonymous
Riding up, back on his horse
Thirty-five miles, his entire course.
He rode beside Paul Revere
And did not stop ‘till his message was clear.
William Dawes, who did not pause,
Rode for the American cause.
At 10 P.M., to continue the ride,
Ebenezer Dorr began to confide.
A country bumpkin he was disguised,
And if caught could have been charged as a spy.
Riding out of Roxbury via the Boston Neck,
Dorr began his rebellious trek.
Samuel Prescott’s trip was not a bore.
After all, he made it all the way to Concord!
In Lexington he had to leave his girlfriend,
To help put the war to an end.
Samuel & Lydia were joined at the hip,
Until he died among a prison ship.
Many people do not know,
That Lydia died a widow.
Then there was Sybil Ludington,
The only woman to join the run.
She rode through Putnam and Dutchess counties,
To warn of the British troops in Danbury, CT.
She traveled forty miles and was just sixteen,
The only female rider to go down in history.
The one who rode through Watertown,
Refused to stop and turn around.
He also rode all through Philly,
On that significant night that was so chilly.
It took Israel Bissel quite a while,
Because he covered 345 miles.
Which totaled four days and six hours,
All to reduce the British power.
The ride is now completely through,
And the colonists have finally got a clue.
The redcoats were marching into town,
While the militia prepared for their round.
Most people only know of Paul Revere,
So go share this poem for all to hear!
